The Basic Income for the Arts Working Group at Praxis has been working hard over the past several months, exploring how a guaranteed income for artists strengthens cultural life, supports creativity and ensures fairer living conditions for our chronically underpaid sector. As part of this process, we have attended meetings and stakeholder forums with the Department of Culture, NCFA and other partners, ensuring that a wide range of voices and perspectives informed our work.
We are pleased to share this work today. It outlines:
A summary of the pilot scheme’s outcomes
A set of recommendations for future policy
How the BIA is not only socially just but fiscally responsible
We invite all cultural workers, policymakers and the wider public to read and engage with this work. Your feedback and support are all welcome as we continue to campaign for a stronger future for arts and culture in Ireland.
